What is CT Scan?

Computed Tomography (CT) scan is an advanced X-ray technique that takes cross-sectional images of the body to detect conditions not visible on plain X-rays. It produces detailed 3D images of bones, organs, blood vessels, and soft tissues, making it essential for diagnosis of trauma, cancers, and vascular conditions.

When is CT Scan Recommended?

  • Head injuries or suspected stroke
  • Chest infections, pneumonia, or lung nodules
  • Abdominal pain and organ evaluation
  • Suspected kidney stones or appendicitis
  • Cancer staging and tumour detection
  • Vascular conditions (CT angiography)
  • Trauma and emergency assessment

How to Prepare for CT Scan

  • 1Inform your doctor about any allergies, especially to contrast dye
  • 2Fast for 4-6 hours before contrast-enhanced CT scans
  • 3Remove metal objects and jewellery
  • 4Wear comfortable clothing
  • 5Inform us if you are pregnant
  • 6Bring all previous reports and referral letter

What Happens During the CT Scan?

You lie on a motorised table that moves through the CT scanner (a large ring-shaped machine). The scan itself takes only a few minutes. If contrast is used, dye is injected via an IV line before or during the scan. You may feel a warm sensation and need to hold your breath briefly during the scan.
